Alderney Winter Wildlife

Puffins on AlderneyAlderney is a special place to visit all year. With fantastic wildlife, a slow pace of life and a beautiful coastline this is the perfect place to escape for a relaxing break.

The island is generally a couple of degrees warmer than mainland UK and the milder climate makes it an ideal choice for those wanting to appreciate the great outdoors.  Walking is a favourite past time of the islanders and many visitors.  There is an abundance of wildlife on the island and you are certainly never far from seeing an array of different sea birds including the iconic puffins, plus pulmars, guillemots, dartford warblers, peregrines and gannets.    There are over 260 species of sea birds resident on the island and in the autumn it’s a popular stopover for many migrating birds heading to warmer climes.

For keen bird watchers arguably the best time of year to visit is the Spring.  Good viewing points include Bibette Head, Chateau a l’Etoc and near the lighthouse.
