Alderney Railway

Train with Braye in backgroundThe only working railway in the Channel Islands is situated in Alderney. Running for approx 2 miles and following a mainly coastal route, the railway runs from Braye Road to Mannez Quarry and Lighthouse.

The railway was developed in the 1840s with the aim of conveying stone from the eastern end of the island to create the breakwater and the forts. The diesel locomotive Elizabeth has been in service on the railway for more than 20 years and although she has 2 newer replacements, still runs the line today.
