Alderney Week 2013 – 3 to 11 August

Coast Media: Visit Guernsey Images: ALDERNEY -Pictures Chris GeorgeEvery year in August Alderney hosts its annual carnival.  Promoted as “The Channel Islands’ World Famous Biggest Annual Carnival and Community Festival” it offers eight fun filled days which this year runs from 3rd – 11th August.  It’s a big affair for such a small island and over 130 events are planned including sports, pony rides, live music, art, fishing and lots of fun for the kids.

The theme for Alderney Week 2013 is “Two Of A Kind” and to celebrate this year’s 65th anniversary it’s going to be bigger and better!

Since 1948, the year that Alderney Week first started, it has changed considerably.  Alderney Week is a non-profit making organisation, and all profits are ploughed back to offer a varied programme year on year.

During the eight days of celebrations the small population of around 2400 doubles so as you can see, it’s a popular time to visit.  For anyone thinking of visiting Alderney for Alderney Week it’s definitely worth booking in advance as being established as the principal week of the season for tourism, the island gets quickly booked up at this time.
