Alderney Events and Festivals

For such a little island there’s a lot going on! Throughout the year the island celebrates what’s seasonal whether it be fantastic local produce or fishing, golfing, running, air and motor competitions. Alderney is a haven for wildlife and has a legacy of historical defences, celebrated with help from organisations such as the Alderney Wildlife Trust. Seafood Festival with Milk-O-Punch Sunday

A spotlight on the islands seafood and local produce for 2 weeks in May. Great menus from the islands restaurants, fishing competitions, a seafood bbq, gala evening and beer festival amongst other events. Not to forget Milk-O-Punch Sunday, an island tradition!

Wildlife Festival Week

Celebrate the islands abundant wildlife by joining in with the walks, talks and hand on events.

Enjoy the live music and performances as well as arts installations created during the last bank holiday weekend in May.

Summer 

Alderney Week including Cavalcade Day

Quiet, serene Alderney – not so during Alderney Week! This is the islands (and possibly’s Britains) biggest carnival event with over 100 activities lined up over the course of the week. There’s something for everyone, from sandcastle competitions to man-powered flights! Join in at your leisure whether it’s parties, parades, the torchlit procession, beach picnics or entertainment.

Alderney Country Fair

A traditional summer fair showcasing the best of the islands local produce and crafts.

Alderney Fly-In

Watch as over 100 planes take to the skies in this annual race event.

Alderney Stones Race for Wildlife

Raising money for charity, walkers and runners can take part in encompassing the islands stone art sculptures known as The Goldsworthy Stones.

Autumn

Motor Sprint and Hill Climb

Car and bike racing on one of the fastest and steepest stretches of road on the island.

Air Races

The last leg of The Royal Aero Club’s British Racing Air Championships takes place in Alderney.

October Food and Drink Festival

An annual festival with themed nights including cookery demos, Halloween suppers and the Oktoberfest beer festival.

Festive Alderney

Alderney gets into the festive spirit with a wonderful programme of seasonal events including carol concerts, live music and entertainment and a winter torchlight procession.

Homecoming Day

Alderney was the only Channel Island to be fully evacuated during World War II and completely taken over by Hitler. Although the islands were liberated in May, Alderney only saw the return of its people on 15th December 1948. Known as ‘Homecoming Day,’ Alderney people commemorate the anniversary each year and gives thanks for the islands return.

Woodland weeks, birdwatching surveys, environmental courses and Living Islands archaeological events including digs and tours of some of the islands defences are just some of the things on offer from the Trust.

Star Gazing

Hoping to gain ‘dark skies status’, Alderney is a great place for star gazing. Well known astronomer Michael Maunder often holds guided evenings.

Alderney Golf Club

Hold a series of events and tournaments throughout the year.

Alderney Angling Club

The Shore League, angling competitions, lure fishing and a year round calendar of events for enthusiasts.

Offer opportunities throughout the year to take part in marathons and races.

Bank Holidays

Alderney celebrates the same bank holidays as the UK with two exceptions. The first Monday in August is celebrated as a bank holiday in lieu of the UK’s end of August bank holiday and 15th December is celebrated as ‘Homecoming Day.’
